Elizabeth Rucker, 97, formerly of Route 2 in Newton, died of heart failure, Sunday, April 13, at the Newton Health Care Center.
Funeral services will be Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. at the Wallace-Pence Funeral Home in Newton with the Rev. Lynn Elrod, assistant pastor of First United Methodist church of Newton, officiating. Burial will be in Newton Union Cemetery.
Friends may call after noon on Tuesday. Visitation with family members will be from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Wallace-Pence Funeral Home.
Memorials to the Jasper County Historical Building fund will be accepted.
The daughter of Constant and Minnie (Hol) Keller, she was born May 15, 1899 in Percy. She attended Marion County schools.
She married Lee R. Rucker Dec. 3, 1919 in Des Moines.
A resident of Newton since 1919, she was employed as a rural mail carrier on Rural Route 2 for 27 years. She was a charter member of the Newton V.F.W. Auxiliary; and a member of the Rural letter Association and Jasper County Historical Society.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Lelah and Robert Main of Newton; two daughters-in-law, Roseva of Newton and Lovena Fries of Des Moines; seven grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 1949; three sons, Herb, Kelly and Carroll; two brothers, Ben and Chase Keller; and three sisters, Emma Cowman, Bertha Read and Lota L. Colyn.
