Prairie City – Lester Thompson, 85, of Prairie City, died Friday, April 11, at Clearview Manor there.
Funeral services were held today (Monday) at 11 a.m. at the Waveland Cemetery in Prairie City with the Rev. Reg Merrill, pastor of the United Methodist Church, officiating.
The Walters-Coburn Funeral Home in Prairie City is in charge of arrangements.
The son of Robert Murphy and Rachel (McMullen) Thompson, he was born Feb. 19, 1912, in Laurel. He was a 1930 graduate of Prairie City High School.
He married Doris Tobias Aug. 19, 1936 in Colfax.
Mr. Thompson worked as a farmer in the Monroe area, later moving to Prairie City, and as a substitute mail carrier for 40 years. He was a member of the Prairie City United Methodist Church and the Preston Masonic Lodge in Prairie City.
Survivors include his wife; a brother, Roy of Prairie City; and two sisters, Winifred Wilson and Lillian Vanderzyl, both of Prairie City.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, William and Wendel.
