Henry J. Eilander Dies on Friday; Services Tuesday
Newton – Henry J. Eilander, 56, of Rt. 3, a longtime resident of Jasper County, died Friday evening at his home.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Wallace Funeral Home.
The Rev. Robert Hinshaw, pastor of Ashton Chapel, and the Rev. A. B. Sudbrock, pastor of the Newton Baptist Temple will conduct services. Burial will be in Mount Zion Cemetery.
Memorial contributions to a fund in Mr. Eilander’s name will be accepted. Memorials may be left at the funeral home.
Survivors are his wife, Marjorie; two sons, Richard Deane of Rt. 1, Monroe, and Eddie Dale of Rt. 3, Newton; a daughter, Mrs. Lowell (Mary Belle) Noring of Beacon; nine grandchildren; two brothers, Burl and William, both of Newton; and three sisters, Mrs. Fred (Clarice) Blake of Des Moines and Tietje Eilander and Mrs. Burnis (Annie) Thompson, both of Newton.
He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant sister, and a brother, Garrett “Jerry” Eilander.
Mr. Eilander was a member of the Newton Baptist Tempe, and a 30-year member of Cement Finishers Union, Local 21, of Des Moines.
A cement contractor, Mr. Eilander had served in the Army during World War II.
The son of Henry and Henrietta Sloderdky Eilander, he was born May 30, 1925 in Newton and attended Jasper and Marion County schools.
He was married to Marjorie B. McNew July 2, 1948 at the Little Brown Church near Nashua.
