Des Moines – Lee Gomez, 78, of Des Moines, formerly of Newton, died Friday, May 28, at the Veterans Medical Center in Des Moines. The cause of death is pending.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 1:30 p.m. at the Wallace-Pence Funeral Home in Newton with the Rev. A. B. Sudbrock, pastor of Newton Baptist Temple, officiating. Burial will be held at a later date.
Friends may call after 10 a.m. Friday at the funeral home where family will be present from noon to 1 p.m. Memorials in Mr. Gomez’s name will be accepted.
The son of Rumaldo “Milo” and Marie Balmer Gomez, he was born May 28, 1921, in Newton. He graduated from Newton High School.
A longtime resident of Newton, he also lived in Washington and Idaho before moving to Des Moines in 1998. Mr. Gomez was employed in electronics and computer sales and service. He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving during World War II and was a member of the Newton area ham radio club.
Survivors include three step-sons, Roger Alldridge of Duvall, Wash, and David Alldridge and Robert Martin, both of Boise, Idaho; a step-daughter, Judy Nokes of Seattle, Wash.; 10 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; three brothers, Raymond and Milo of Newton and Robert of Reasnor; and two sisters and a brother-in-law, Lucille and Raymond Dobbs of Newton and Margaret Baxter of Bedford, Ind.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two wives and four brothers.
