Douglas Wayne Morton, 44, of Des Moines died on Wednesday, September 30, 2020, at MercyOne Des Moines Medical Center. A celebration of Doug’s life will be held from 2-4 p.m., Sunday, October 11, at the Emerson Hough Chapter of the Izaak Walton League. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Doug’s name (checks made payable to Jen Cross) for his son Carter may be left at the Ikes or at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory.

Doug, the son of Danny and Tammy (Stoner) Morton, was born on July 15, 1976 in Newton. He grew up in Newton and graduated from Newton High School in 1995. After high school he attended Kirkwood Community College. Doug was united in marriage with Courtney Morris and they had one son, Carter. He later married Michele Kilgore. For the last 15 years, Doug has lived in the Des Moines area. He had worked for Des Moines Asphalt and as a bartender at many Des Moines area bars. Doug loved spending time with his family and friends, many of which he had stayed close to since high school. He had a huge heart and truly enjoyed helping people. Doug was an avid Dallas Cowboys and Iowa Hawkeye fan.

Doug is survived by his son, Carter Morton of Johnston; parents, Tammy Morton of Des Moines and Danny (Julie) Morton of Des Moines; maternal grandmother, Darlene Stoner of Prairie City; siblings, Jen (Ted) Cross of Laurel, Stacy (Andy) Watt of Baxter, April (Devin) Ahlers of Prospect Heights, Illinois, and Missy (Jackson) Kite of Des Moines; his nieces and nephews, Sam, Harleigh, Taylor, Bekka, Ava, and Evan; aunts and uncles, Lisa Pendroy, Martin Stoner, Tim Morton, and Bruce (Shirley) Morton; and his dog, Star and her three puppies. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Ray Stoner; paternal grandparents, Junior and Donna Morton; and an uncle, Ray Stoner, Jr.
