Pleasant Hill – Raymond L. Thompson, 72, died of complications of an intracranial hemorrhage Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2006, at Iowa health Hospice Taylor House.
A funeral service will be Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at Iles Funeral Homes, located at Grandview Park Chapel, 3211 Hubbell Ave., in Des Moines.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be directed to Iowa Health Hospice Taylor House.
The son of William and Gertrude (Ward) Thompson, he was born Jan. 10, 1934, in Colfax. He graduated from Colfax High School and worked for Maytag Company in Newton before being drafted into the U.S. Army for two years. After returning from Germany, he worked at The Vernon Company and farmed in Jasper County for many years. During this time, he also owned the Trading Post Bar in Mingo. He retired from farming in 1990, when he moved to Pleasant Hill and worked for Artistic Manufacturing in Altoona. He was a 23-year member of the Elks Lodge and enjoyed spending winters at the Leisure World Community of Weslaco, Texas.
He is survived by his wife (of 50 years, Marilyn Iske Thompson); two sons, Rusty (Sandy) Thompson of Pleasant Hill and Jay (Jeri) Thompson of Smithville, Mo.; and six grandchildren.
