Omaha, Neb. – Garry Morris, 44, of Omaha, Neb., formerly of Killduff, died from injuries suffered as a result of a homicide at his home, Monday, Jan. 15.
Funeral services will be Friday at 1:30 p.m. at Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton with the Rev. John Claussen, pastor of the Christian Church in Pleasantville, officiating. Burial will be at McKeever Cemetery in rural Colfax.
Friends may call Thursday after 3 p.m. at the funeral home where family will be present from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorials will be accepted to Iowa Youth Services of Des Moines or Omaha Youth Emergency Services.
The son of Donald N. and Ida May Masters Morris, he was born March 19, 1956, in Grinnell. He was a graduate of Lynnville-Sully High School, Iowa State University and of Central College. He recently had been working on his master’s degree at Drake University.
Mr. Morris grew up in Killduff, lived in Des Moines from 1995 until October 2000, when he moved to Omaha. He was in the Peach Corps from 1980 to 1983 in West Africa. He had been the Developmental Director for the Youth Shelter Services in Des Moines and in Ames from 1995 until he moved to Omaha. At that time, he was employed as the Development Director at Youth Emergency Services, Inc. in Omaha, Neb.
Survivors include his parents; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Donnie and Terri of Sully and Larry E. of Grinnell; a sister and brother-in-law, Cindy Sue and Michael A. Woody of Newton; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents.
