McAllen, Texas – Carroll Franklin Deaton, 70, of Newton, died of cancer Wednesday, Jan. 24, at McAllen Medical Center in McAllen, Texas.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Newton, with Pastor Steven Pannkuk presiding.
Burial will be at McKeever Cemetery in Colfax, with visitation after 1 p.m. Sunday with family present from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Pence Funeral Home in Newton.
Memorials will be accepted in Mr. Deaton’s name by Holy Trinity Lutheran Church.
The son of Milburn F. and Marie Gene Gochanour Deaton, he was born Oct. 25, 1930, in Valeria, graduating from Colfax High School.
He married Helen L. Vande Kieft on Jan. 2, 1953, in Cattlesburg, Ky., and worked as a repairman in the Maytag Company Assembly Department, retiring in1989 after 34 years of service.
Mr. Deaton enjoyed horses, traveling in western mountains, and wintering in Texas’ Rio Grande Valley with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Helen L. Deaton, of Newton; a son and daughter-in-law, Kevin and Diana of Pella; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Florence and Guy Wilson, Louise and Maurice McGinley, and Sandy and Roy Bowers, all of Newton; a sister-in-law, Marilyn Deaton of Muskegon, Mich.; several nieces and nephews; and two grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, a nephew, and a great-nephew.
