Miss Marie Kartchner passed away June 22, 1994 at Luther Park Health Center in Des Moines, Iowa
Services were held June 28th at West Des Moines Christian Church, of which she was a member. Burial was at McKeever Cemetery, Colfax, Iowa.
Arrangements were handled by McLaren’s Funeral Home of Des Moines.
Miss Kartchner was born in Mound Prairie Township Jasper County, Iowa on February 2, 1901. She was a graduate of Colfax High School and the University of Iowa. She also did graduate work at the University of Iowa and Washington University.
She was a member of national honorary sororities; Pi Lambda Theta and Delta Kappa Gamma. She was a member of the National Retired Teachers Association, Life Member of the University of Iowa Alumni Association, life member of the Jasper County Historic Society, and a 50+ year member of the Newton Chapter #100 Order of Eastern Star, and the West Des Moines Women’s Club.
Miss Kartchner taught at Tioga, LA and the Iowa towns of Lynnville, Monroe, rural Jasper County, and Valley High School of West Des Moines and retired to California in 1966.
She lived in Inglewood, CA, until 1987 when she returned to West Des Moines, IA. On February 16, 1992, Miss Kartchner suffered massive strokes after which she moved to Luther Park Health Center where she received the best of care until her passing.
