Glen Wheeler Rites Held August 9
Glen Calvin Wheeler, 66, of Blue Grass and Tucson, Ariz., a former longtime resident of Colfax, died Wednesday, Aug. 5, at Mercy Hospital in Davenport.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 9, at the Walters-Coburn Funeral Home in Colfax.
The Rev. John McKinstry, pastor of the Howard Street Christian Church in Colfax, conducted services. Burial was in McKeever Cemetery, north of Colfax.
Walter Williams was the soloist.
Casket bearers were Bill Pratt, Jim Thomas, R. F. Susic, Harold Hunter, Art Thomas, and Darrold Hunter.
Survivors are his wife, Frances Mae; three sons, Richard C. of Blue Grass, Glen Calvin, Jr. of Rock Island, Ill., and William E. of Marana, Ariz.; a daughter (Mrs. Richard) Solasberry of Colfax; five grandchildren; and a brother, Alan K. Wheeler of Colfax.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister and his step-mother.
A John Deere Co. (Des Moines) retiree, he served in the Navy during World War II and was a member of Jones-Willis American Legion Post in Colfax.
The son of Glen and Bessie Jackson Wheeler, he was born March 23, 1926, in Colfax.
He was married to Frances Mae Welch Aug. 15, 1952 in Des Moines.
