Funeral services for August Schnarthorst, of near Newton, were held Sunday afternoon at 1 o’clock at the Morgan funeral home at Newton followed by services at the St. John’s Evangelical church with Rev. Roth in charge.
August Schnarthorst was born July 12, 1866, in Miniwock county, Wisconsin, and was united in marriage to Miss Minnie Ebert May 18, 1893. They lived near Newton most of their married life. Mr. Schnarthorst died Wednesday evening at 7 o’clock in the Skiff Memorial Hospital at Newton following an illness after a serious operation. He was in the hospital about two weeks and had been ailing for some time. He was 62 years, 10 months and 4 days old at the time of his death.
Surviving him are his wife, two daughters, Clara at home; Mrs. Marie Eilert, of Newton; four sons, Wilbert and Edward, of Newton; Vernon and Lloyd, at home: one son died in infancy; four brothers, Herman, of Newton, Karl, of Huron, S. Dak., Henry, of Averill, Minn., Will, of Frazes, Minn., five sisters, Mrs. Amelia Korte, of Melbourne; Mrs. Fred Petermeier, of Baxter; Mrs. Herman Stork, of Newton; Mrs. John Lehman, of Alleman, and Mrs. August Damman, of Malaka township.
The funeral was largely attended and many relatives and friends from a distance attended.
