Died Very Suddenly
John W. Long of Marshalltown died suddenly Monday afternoon of heart trouble. The deceased was 69 years of age and at one time lived on a farm near Rhodes. Mr. Long was Chairman of the Marshall county board of supervisors.
He was buried Wednesday afternoon in the Kintz cemetery after brief services had been held in the Kintz church. The deceased was a brother of Frank Long and an uncle of Mrs. Guy Hardenburgh of Baxter.

John W. Long
Funeral services were held for John W. Long on Wednesday afternoon, June 5th at the Kintz church west of Baxter. The services were conducted by Rev. B. F. Kern, who had long known the deceased. The church was filled to capacity by old time friends and the floral offering marked universal respect and love for the one who once had been a leader in their midst. The services were conducted by Eden Lodge No. 466, A.F. & A.M. of Rhodes and the pall bearers chosen from the membership were J. P. Satterfied, Andrew Hale, Charles, H. G. Buck, W. D. Burgoyne and A. C. Heintz.
The masonic service at the grave was conducted by W. C. Heintz as acting master. Interment was made in the Kintz cemetery near the church. Music was furnished by a ladies quartette composed of Mesdames F. C. Mason, Clara Lauderbaugh and Misses Louise Goodwin and Marguerite Krampe who were accompanied by Mrs. Leon Cammack.
John Long, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Long, sr., was born March 7, 1860 in Winneshiek county, Iowa. With his parents, he came to Jasper county in 1867, where he lived for many years.
He was married to Miss Amanda Signs, and the couple lived on a farm south of Rhodes, Ia., for more than 40 years, moving to Marshalltown about 10 years ago.
Besides his wife, Mr. Long is survived by three daughters, Bertha, Iva and Myrtle, several grandchildren and two brothers, Frank of Baxter and Albert of Des Moines.
