Opal L. (Hill) Taylor, 86, of Newton died Saturday, May 15, at Skiff Medical Center in Newton.
Memorial services will be held today at 7 p.m. at Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton with the Rev. Phil Cardenzana of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Colfax officiating. Private family burial will be held at a later date at Union Chapel Cemetery in rural Ira.
The family will greet friends immediately following the service with a coffee time at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to Hospice of Jasper County. Memorials may be left at the funeral home.
The daughter of Thomas L. and Hazel (Couch) Dawson, she was born June 5, 1917, in Jasper County. She grew up in northwest Jasper County, lived in Colfax for 27 years and in Newton for 35 years.
On July 3, 1936, she married Francis B. Hill in Lancaster, Mo. She later married Leland Taylor on July 7, 1965, in Jasper County. She was a homemaker and enjoyed crafts, crocheting, walks, picnics and being with her family. She was a homemaker and attended Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Colfax.
Survivors include her husband, Leland "Pete" Taylor; a son and daughter-in-law, William E. "Bill" and Almeta Hill of Colfax; two grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one sister, Caroline Maxwell of Mingo.
She was preceded in death by her parents, first husband, three brothers and two sisters.
