Billie Stanley, 81, of Newton died from complications of progressive supranuclear palsy Saturday, May 22, at Park Centre in Newton.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 10 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Newton with the Rev. Mary Schnepf, assistant pastor, officiating. Burial will be at Newton Union Cemetery. Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton is handling arrangements.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home where the family will be available. Memorials will be accepted to the Barn Project of the Jasper County Historical Museum and may be left at the funeral home or at the church the day of the service.

The daughter of William F. and Clara A. (Pfeiffer) Barrett, she was born Dec. 19, 1922, in Spirit Lake. She was a graduate of Spirit Lake High School in 1940 and graduated from Iowa State University. On May 30, 1953, she married Robert F. Stanley in Spirit Lake. She was a registered dietitian and worked as an inspector for the Jasper County Health Department. She grew up in Spirit Lake and also lived in Chicago and Urbana, Ill., prior to moving to Newton in 1957. She enjoyed her flower gardens, doing needlepoint and antiquing. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family.

Survivors include her husband; a son and daughter-in-law, David R. and Lori Stanley of Osage; a daughter and son-in-law, Susan M. and Tim Morrison of Altoona; four grandchildren; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Marie Barrett of Spirit Lake and Helen and Ed Edmondson of Ames; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents
