Mrs. Young, Newton, Dies
Mother of 7 Children in County Succumbs at 88, Following Stroke

Young, Leeanna (Norfleet)

Mrs. Leeanna Norfleet Young, 88, of Newton, mother of seven children living within Jasper County, died at Skiff Memorial hospital here Saturday afternoon at 3:30 o'clock. She recently suffered a light stroke and had been a patient at the hospital for 11 days.

Funeral services will be held at the Newton First Methodist church Tuesday morning at 10:30 o'clock with the Rev. W. J. Fowler of Sigourney, Ia., in charge. Burial will be in Our Silent City cemetery at Kellogg.

Children Surviving

Mrs. Young, widow of Nimrod I. Young, was the mother of Mrs. Leola Hook of Newton, John, Frank, Lloyd, and James Young and Mrs. Sherman Woods, all of near Kellogg, and Ivy Young of near Prairie City. Also surviving are 18 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

Born near Monticello, in Wayne County, Ky., July 24, 1854, she was the youngest of a family of eight children born to the Rev. Jesse and Amelia Norfleet. The Rev. Norfleet was a Presbyterian minister.

She married Nimrod I. Young of Wayne county Oct. 2, 1873, and the couple came to Jasper county soon afterwards to settle on a farm south of Kellogg.

Church Member

Mr. Young had previously lived in Jasper county for several years and had gone to the west coast to mine for gold. He preceeded his wife in death Oct. 12, 1923, 10 days after their golden wedding anniversary.

Mrs. Young, who lived at 609 North Second Avenue West, joined the Presbyterian Church in childhood, later became a member of the Methodist Church, and was a member of a ladies' aid society here. She was also a member of The Newton Daily News' Three-Quarter Century club.

Three sons preceeded Mrs. Young in death. They were Jesse, who died in infancy, George, who died in 1911, and Bolin, who died in 1928.
