Fred Young, 95 Dies at Hospital Rites WednesdayFrederick (Fred) Charles Young, 95, a barber for more than 60 years prior to his retirement in 1953, died at 2:35 pm Monday at the Skiff Memorial hospital.
Funeral services will be held at 2 pm, Wednesday at the First Methodist church.The Rev. Arthur V. Long minister of the church will conduct the services. Burial will be in Newton Union Cemetery.
Johnson funeral home is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Young is survived by his wife, Frances; a daughter, Mrs. Arris (June) Druyff of Newton; two grand-children; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife in 1938, a son, two sister and five brothers.
Mr. Young was a member of the Methodist church. He was also a member of the Masonic lodge, an IOOF 50-year member, the Woodmen of the World and the Rebekah lodge.
Mr. Young, who served as a Newton City Councilman in 1939-1940, was a past master of the Masons and past noble grand of the IOOF.
The son of John and Elizabeth Young, he was born in Genesee, ILL., educated in Genesee and Marshalltown schools. Mr. Young moved with his parents to Marshalltown at the age of nine and to Newton at the age of 21, residing here since.
He was married in 1885 to Laura Marks who preceded him in death in 1938. October 29, 1939 he was married to Frances Wilson.
