A Very Sad Affair

Worth, Ray

A terrible and sad affair happened early Wednesday morning in which Ray, the 8-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Worth lost his life.

The team had just been hitched up to go to a neighbors to shell corn, when Mr. Worth jumped out of the wagon to run into the barn after something that had been forgotten, leaving the boy holding the lines. The team was a gentle one and Wm. expected to be gone but a minute. Scarcely had he gone the horses started to run off; they ran into a cob pile, overturning the wagon and throwing the boy out. In the fall the little lad’s neck was broken and having been dragged a short distance his face was badly bruised. When picked up by his mother, he yet breathed, but he soon passed away. He was a bright boy, the pride of his parents and his sudden unexpected death comes hard to these parents. They are heartbroken over it. They have the sympathy of all. Monroe Mirror. in The Newton Record Thursday, January 4, 1900
