ObituaryWoods, Hannah
The body of Mrs. Hannah Woods, who died suddenly at the home of her daughter, Mrs. W. W. Honnel of Des Moines, was brought to this city Saturday morning and laid beside her son-in-law and grandchild in Prairie City’s old cemetery.
Mrs. Woods formerly was proprietor of what is now the Norris Hotel. The hotel was then called the Iowa House. She was 74 years and 7 months of age. Her husband preceded her twenty-five years ago to the better land while they were living in New York and was laid to rest in the beautiful Evergreen Cemetery in that city.
The members of the family that accompanied the corpse here were: Mrs. W. W. Honnel and Mrs. N. B. Carson, daughters of deceased, W. B. Carson and daughter Laura of Estherville, Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Brewer, Mr. and Mrs. B. F. Hyland and Miss Lillian Honnel, grandchildren of the departed.
A number of old friends and neighbors met the funeral cortege and accompanied them to the cemetery. The floral gifts were profuse and beautiful. A large pillow of white flowers with word “Mother” inscribed upon it was the gift of the family. After a brief prayer by Rev. C. A. Gray, the body was consigned to its last resting place and covered with beautiful flowers.
Mrs. Woods was a faithful adherent to the Episcopal Church all her life, a devoted mother and kind neighbor. The sympathy of many old friends in Prairie City is extended to the bereaved.
