Capt. Frank Woods Died Tuesday At Veterans Hospital

City Mail Carrier Since 1916 In Colfax: Veteran Of World War One and Two Capt. Frank Woods, 52, of this city, died at 7:55 a. m. Tuesday, July 22nd at the Veteran's hospital in Des Moines, where he had recently undergone a serious abdominal operation, death resulting from peritonitis.
Mr. Woods was known by most folks in Colfax and especially in east Colfax where he had been the city mail carrier since July 1916.
A veteran of two world wars, Mr. Woods entered the first conflict as a private in the infantry and emerged a second lieutenant. Remaining in the reserve he worked his way up to a Captaincy before the Second World War.
At the outbreak of World War II he accepted the call and after attending schooling both at Ft. Leonard Wood and Edgewood, Maryland, he was assigned to Ft. Leavenworth, Kansas, where he held a responsible position in the Provost Marshall's office.
He was a member of the Presbyterian Church in Colfax and the Elk's Lodge at Ft. Leavenworth, Kansas.
Mr. Woods was born Dec. 29th, 1894 in Washington Township, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Woods. His entire life had been spent in Colfax. In 1920 he was united in marriage to Clare Wheeler and to this union one son, Frank Jr. was born.
Besides his wife and son he is survived by one grandson, Danny Woods, his father Harry Woods, Colfax, one sister, Mrs. Coral Wood, Muskogee, Okla., six brothers, Ernest of St. Louis, Mo., Everett of Joplin, Mo., John H. of Beaumont, Texas, Ralph of Colfax, Gordon G., Bayton, Texas, and Harold G. of Springfield, Mo. His mother preceded him in death Dec. 22, 1941.
Funeral services will be conducted I at 2:30 Sunday afternoon from the Colfax Presbyterian church with Chaplain DeLoss Marken of the Veterans hospital, Des Moines, officiating. Interment will be in the Colfax Cemetery. ~ Colfax Jul 1947

FUNERAL SERVICES FOR FRANK WOODS HELD SUNDAY.
Military Service With Rev. DeLoss Marken, Chaplain Veterans Hospital in Charge.Funeral services for Capt. Frank E. Woods, 52, were held Sunday afternoon from the Presbyterian Church with the Rev.

Mr. Woods, popular mail carrier for east Colfax since 1916, died July 22nd at the Veterans hospital, Des Moines, following an ulcer and stomach operation, death being caused by peritonitis.
Music was furnished by Mrs. Hazel French and Mrs. Lyle Coulter with Mrs. S. E. Tennant, organist.
Pall bearers were T. A. Bell, Tom Burgess, Gus DeCamp, Maynard Binkerd, Claude Rodgers and Ray Peterson.
Flower committee: Mrs. Eugene Riley, Mrs. W. C. Crisman, Mrs. Dota Falcon and Mrs. George Williams.
A military service was had with Jones-Willis Post American Legion in charge. The firing squad gave the salute at the grave and taps were played by Bob Harter with Jean Binkerd the echo.
The floral tribute was very large and especially lovely, the large floral envelope made of white gladiola with purple glads for the stamp and the address, “F. E. Woods, Colfax, Ia.,” also in purple, being original and appropriate for a mail carrier. ~ Colfax Jul 1947
