EARL S. WILLIAMS SERVICES FRIDAY
Earl Stanford Williams, 81, of Rte. 1, Grinnell, passed away Tuesday morning at University Hospitals, Iowa City. He had been in failing health for the past six weeks.
The youngest in a family of four sons and one daughter, he was born June 12, 1887, to Wilford and Anna Graham Williams north of Lynnville. He attended Lynnville schools and later, on June 2, 1909, was united in marriage with Jennie Maude Young.
Three daughters and one son were born to the couple Mrs. Clarence (Bernice) Stritt of Cedar Rapids, Mrs. Dale (Mabel) Ratcliff of Grinnell, Leola (deceased), and Ward Williams of Rte. 1, Grinnell.
In addition to his two daughters and his son, Mr. Williams is survived by a brother, Harry Williams of Lynnville: seven grandsons - - - Ronald Williams of Ankeny, Gary Williams of Sutherland, and Scott, Stacy, Sean and Stefen Williams, all of Rte. 1, Grinnell; and one great grandson - - - Robert Williams of Ankeny.
He was preceded in death by his wife Jennie on April 7, 1965; his daughter Leola at the age of 17; two brothers and one sister. A life-long resident of the Lynnville area. Mr. Williams had farmed there since his marriage. He was a member of the Lynnville Friends Church and the Farm Bureau.
Funeral services for Mr. Williams, will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Ralph Beebe, interim pastor of the First Baptist Church, officiating. Organist will be Mrs. Willard Heffner, and vocal music will be provided by Bernard Kooistra and Mrs. Cornie Dunsbergen. Casket bearers include Max Smith, Daryl Thompson, Ronald Williams, Dennis Williams, Gary Williams, and Don Sowerwine. Interment will be in Woodland Cemetery, Lynnville. Friends may call at the Smith Funeral Home.
