Death Claims Jack Williams, Sr. After Long Illness
Funeral Services Held Tuesday Afternoon At 2:00 P. M. From Christian Church.
Jack Williams, Sr., 67, passed away at his home in west Colfax at 11:50 p. m. Saturday, June 28th, following an illness of some eighteen months duration of a malignant ailment.
John C. Williams, son of Walter and Hannah Williams was born Feb. 1, 1880, at Pidgeon Run, Ohio, and died at his home in Colfax, Saturday evening, June 28, 1947, at the age of 67 years, 4 months and 27 days.
While still a boy he moved with his parents to Iowa, locating in Mahaska County, where he grew to manhood. Mr. Williams was a miner by trade, following his chosen vocation until a mine accident in October 1941. While partially recovering from the accident, which badly injured his ankle and leg he has had a general decline in health since that date. His final illness extended over a period of four years with the past 18 months being one of suffering and continuous pain.
On March 24, 1906, he was united in marriage to Amelia Thomas, at Beacon, Iowa. Here the home was established and where they lived until 1911 when the family moved to Colfax and which has since been his home. To this union five children were born, Louise Celeste, who died at birth; Mrs. J. D. (June) Chambers of Los Angeles, Calif.; Mrs. Clyde (Kathryn) Johnson, of Cedar Falls; Mrs. Eleanor Garside and Jack, Jr., both of Colfax. Besides his wife and children he is survived by two grandchildren, Harold Thompson and Jacquelyn Garside of this city; two brothers, George Williams of West Des Moines and Tom Williams of Colfax, besides many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, David, William, Benjamin and Walter; a sister in early age and a daughter in infancy.
Mr. Williams was a man who truly loved his home and family and was never happier than when surrounded by his wife, children and grandchildren. During these many months of illness he was a patient sufferer but day and night his family did everything within their power to bring him comfort. As a kind and loving husband and father; good neighbor and true friend, he will be greatly missed.
Funeral services were conducted Tuesday afternoon at 2:00 p. m. from the Christian church with the Rev. Morgan Jones of Des Moines, a boyhood friend and Rev. Walter Goughnour officiating.
Music was provided by Mrs. Earl Plummer and Mrs. George Rinker with Mrs. S. E. Tennant at the piano.
The flower committee was Mrs. Cleo Wall and Mrs. Claude Rodgers.
Pall bearers were Tom Burgess, Charles Naisbitt, Tom Bowman, Tom Roberts, Frank Davidson and Harry Deskin.
