Death of Former Newton Lady

Mrs. Elizabeth Wert died at her home in Ida Grove, Ia., on Tuesday morning of last week, aged about 67 years. Her disease was cancer, from which she had been a great sufferer.

She leaves three daughters and one son. Mrs. Wert was a resident of Newton from 1855 until a few years ago, when she moved to Ida Grove. She was the widow of Solomon Wert (a brother of D. M. Wert, our city Marshall) who was a soldier in Co. K. 28th Iowa, captured at the Battle of Cedar Creek, Va., Oct. 19, 1864, and died soon afterward in Libby Prison. ~ The Newton Record Friday, May 28, 1897
