Mustered Into the Great Army Above

Vasbinder, David Craig

Another old soldier has answered to the last roll call on earth, and gone to join the great army of the redeemed in the world beyond. Craig Vasbinder died at his home in Newton last Wednesday at 12:30 p. m.

Although an invalid for many years, his death was a great shock to his loved ones, who had still hoped that he might be spared to them a while longer. For the past few weeks he had been growing weaker, and his condition more alarming; but Wednesday morning he seemed better and only a few minutes before his death he told his wife that he would "soon be all right again."

David Craig Vasbinder was born in Washington County, Penn., Jan. 9, 1843, making him 52 years of age last Jan. When he was 15 years of age he moved to Mansfield, Ohio.

In 1862, while a student at Haysville Academy, he enlisted as a soldier in Co. D, 102nd Ohio Infantry, and for many months was in the commissary department at Clarksville, Tennessee. After serving in the army for 22 months he was discharged, on account of the disease, which finally resulted in his death. After his return from the service the attended the Iron City College at Pittsburgh, from which he graduated with highest honors.

He married in this city June 16, 1875, to Miss Emma Connelly, and returned to Mansfield, where they lived until 1885, when he removed to Newton. Two children were born to them, Clay, aged 18, and May, aged 14.

He had been a member of the Presbyterian Church since he was 13 years of age, his whole life being that of a faithful, consistent Christian. He was a devoted husband, a tender, loving father, and an honorable, upright citizen. His wife and children have the sympathy of all in their great sorrow.

The funeral services were held at the home at 10 o'clock today, conducted by Rev. Harrah.
