DEATH NEAR LAUREL.Mrs. Mary Propp, Old Resident of the County, Passes Away.
Mary ProppFollowing a stroke of paralysis, with which she has been afflicted since Saturday night, Mrs. Mary Propp, aged 80, widow of Henry Propp, and mother of Henry Propp, 1412 West Main street and Fred Propp 411 Park Street, died at 2:15 this morning at the home of her daughter, Mrs. William Achtemeier, six miles southwest of Laurel, across the Jasper County line.
Mrs. Propp was in her usual health at the supper hour Saturday, and was in the best of spirits. She ate a hearty supper, and at 11 o'clock was found lying unconscious on the floor in her room. She did not regain consciousness.
Mrs. Propp was born Mary Karsten in Germany, in June, 1834. She came to this country as a young woman of 21, and settled at Freeport, Ill.,where she became the wife of Mr. Propp. Mr. and Mrs. Propp lived at Freeport for 25 years following their marriage, and thirty-eight years of age came to Jasper County, settling on the old homestead southwest of Laurel, adjoining the Achtemeier farm where Mrs. Propp died.
In addition to Mrs. Achtemeier and the sons in this city, Mrs Propp is survived by another daughter, Mrs. Mary Herzog, who lives near Melbourne. There also survive Mrs. Propps twenty-two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
The funeral will be held from the Achtemeier home at 1 o'clock Sunday afternoon. Interment will follow in the Horne Cemetery four miles southwest of the old home.
