Mahala Poulson - Died at her home on Poweshiek Twp. Jasper Co., Iowa at 2:15 a.m., Monday, April 5, 1886, Mahala Poulson, beloved Wife of J. C. Poulson aged 59 years, 2 months and 15 days.
The funeral was from the residence, on Tuesday, at 1 a.m., the exercises being conducted by the Rev. G. W. Patterson, of Greencastle, and the interment was held at the Poweshiek Cemetery. The obsequies were attended by a very large number of people.
Mahala Spray was born in the Harrison County, Ohio. And there at the age of 15 she married the husband who survives her. Her life in Iowa comprised two years in Wapello Co., and in 1851 she remised with her husband to this county where her life of piety and usefulness so peacefully ended. She was an unassuming sincere Christian, and an ornament to the Methodist Episcopal church, of which she was a working member for nearly half a century her life as wife and a mother may be best understood from a remark made by her bereaved companion since her death, said be "During our married life of ?? years, we never had a disagreement. She was ill only 4 days, but suffered greatly. Her fatal malady being consumption of the bowels.
