Scott H. Durbin

Died.--At his home in Newton on Friday, April 7, 1893, Mr. Scott Durbin, aged 60 years.

The deceased was born in Knox Co., Ohio, in September 1833 and moved to Iowa in the early 60's. He married Miss Ellen Caldwell and eleven children were born to them, and six were living and at his bedside during his last hours. He enlisted in Co. K., 28th Iowa Volunteers and served his full term in spite of the fact that he was unfit for the service part of the time.

In 1887 he removed to Shelby Co., Iowa and stayed there until late last fall when he returned to Newton. For the past three years he has been almost a confirmed invalid and his last hours were very painful.

He was buried Sunday in the Sugar Grove Cemetery; funeral being conducted by Rev. Young of Kellogg. During his long residence here he made many friends who sincerely mourn his death and extend their sympathies to the bereaved wife and children. ~ The Newton (Iowa) Journal, April 12, 1893.
