Rites Conducted This Afternoon For Roy Paul 69

Roy Paul

Roy Paul, 69, Rte. 2, Grinnell, died at a local hospital Friday evening following an illness of the past several years.

Funeral services were held this afternoon (Monday) from the Smith Funeral Home with the Rev. Roland Wendell, pastor of the Newburg Congregational church, officiating. Vocal music was provided by Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Palmer, accompanied by Mrs. Don Renaud at the organ.

In charge of flowers were Mrs. Leonard Hendrickson and Mrs. Delmar Howard. Pallbearers were Meredith Madill Delmar Howard, Kenneth Iske, Harley MaIlrath, Leonard Hendrickson, and James McCullouch.

Interment was in Prairie View cemetery at Gilman.

He was born June 16, 1892, near Laurel, the son of John S. and Mary Green Paul, one of a family of 10 children. He received the education in the rural schools near Laurel.

On Jan. 21, 1914, he was united in marriage with Myrtle Stanton at the Stanton family home near Laurel. To this union were born five children: Wendell Paul of near Gilman; Waldo Paul of Grinnell; Mrs. John (Hazel) Dykstra of Long Island, N. Y.; Mrs. Forrest (Betty) Dawson of Oelwein; and Gerald E. Paul with the U. S. Navy at Pensacola Naval Air Station, Fla. In addition to his children, Mr. Paul is survived by his widow Myrtle at the family home northwest of Grinnell; 10 grandchildren, two great grandchildren; and five brothers; Ross of Clearfield, Utah; Elmer of Marshalltown; Marion of Anamosa; and Perry and Myron, both of Phoenix, Ariz.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, and one sister.

Mr. Paul had lived in the Grinnell-Newburg area since 1951 when he moved from the farm in the Laurel area.
