Sam Parker Dies; Services Tuesday
Sam Parker
Sam Parker, 84, a lifetime resident of the Gilman community, died late Sunday afternoon, Dec. 3, at Grinnell General Hospital East, following hospitalization the last eight days.
The son of Richard and Matilda Paul Parker, Mr. Parker was born on a farm in Hickory Grove Township, Jasper County, Iowa, on July 25, 1883. He attended the rural schools near his home.
On Feb. 14, 1916, he married Mary Grace McIlrath at her home in Grinnell.
After their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Parker farmed north of Newburg for 36 years. In 1952, they moved to their home in Gilman.
Mr. Parker was a member of the Gilman Community Church.
Survivors include his widow, Grace; one brother, James Arthur Parker of Gilman; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Mr. Parker was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, William John Parker, on Jan. 20, 1967.
Funeral services for Sam Parker will be held at 2 p.m, Tuesday, Dec. 5, at the Gilman Community church with the Rev. Mr. Wendell Henline, interim pastor of Gilman Community church. Music will be provided by Mrs. Marion Meling, organist, and Mrs. Robert Weaver, vocalist.
Pallbearers will be Kenneth Arthur, Frank Coppock, Bruce Doane, Lee Hauser, Howard Madill, and Art Weaver. Burial will be made in Prairie View Cemetery at Gilman.
Friends may call at the Smith Funeral Home until 9 a.m.Tuessday, and thereafter at the Gilman Community church
