DIED: At the residence of J. E. Lemen in Colfax, at 1:30 o'clock Saturday morning, June 7th, Mrs. Anna Pardoe, aged 25 years, 4 months and 21 days. From the Colfax Clipper we take the following:Anna Pardoe
Deceased was the daughter of J. H. Lemen and wife was born in Ohio and came with her parents to Iowa in 1879 when they came and made their home here.
On December 16, 1884 she was married to C. G. Pardoe son of Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Pardoe the fruit of the union being little Karl, born the following year. Mr. Pardoe died before Karl was two years old. Since the death of her companion Anna's health, never robust, has been failing, being gradually undermined by an insidious malady which medical skill was powerless to arrest and which required only the lapse of time to sacrifice its victim. Seventeen months ago Anna gave up her care to this office where she had learned her trade and since then her decline has been almost steady. She suffered greatly but with a patience that avoided disturbing or discommoding others. She did not fear death nor shrink from its approach but dreaded it only because it parted her from her boy and left him with no natural protector. Her illness aroused the keenest sympathy of everyone here, and the sorrow over her untimely death is general and sincere.
She is gone from us and the hope of meeting her again in a spirit land cannot check the choking sobs of those who loved her and realize that the light in those dear eyes is dimmed, the gentle voice is stilled, and the busy, weary hands closed forever in the inexorable embrace of the king of terrors. But the memory of her life is embedded in our hearts. It is a book from the pages of which--after the early sorrow of the sad parting has been soothed by the hand of time--we may read with sadness, while we realize that she is free from all pain and sickness and grief.
The funeral was held at the family residence in Colfax, on Monday morning after which the remains were brought to Newton, and laid to rest beside those of her husband in our cemetery.
Notwithstanding the rain and bad roads quite a number of Colfax people accompanied the funeral corgege to this place, where they were joined by a number of Newton friends. Messers Frank and George Pardoe of Minneapolis arrived on Monday just in time to attend the funeral, and pay the last tribute of affection to their loved one.
