Walter A. Palmer, 79, a lifetime resident of the Newburg community, died suddenly Tuesday afternoon at Marshalltown while visiting friends.
Services are scheduled for ___p.m. Saturday from the James-Schalinske Funeral Home with the Rev. Roland Wendell, pastor of the Newburg Congregational church, officiating. Interment will be in Chester cemetery.
The son of Anson and Abie Alden Palmer, he was born near Newburg on April 10, 1884. He attended the rural schools and until a year ago was actively engaged as a carpenter and cabinet maker.
On Nov. 14, 1906, at Newburg, he was united in marriage with Pearl M. Wichman. She preceded him in death on June 4, 1959. He was a member of the Newburg Congregational church, which was founded by his family.
Survivors include his four daughters, Mrs. E. J. (Lucille) Britton of San Diego, Calif.; Mrs. Vernon (Esther) Williamson of Buena Park, Calif., Mrs. Wells (Margatet) Campbell of Long Beach, Calif., and Mrs. Charles F. (Maxine) Mehlin of Waterloo; and four sons, Lloyd B. and Verle of Newton, Glenn W. of Bartlesville, Okla., and Donald of Washington, D.C. Also surviving are 16 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; three brothers, Austin of Colorado Springs, Colo., George W. of Newburg, and John of Long Beach, Calif.; and one sister Edith Sears of Grinnell.
Preceding him in death were his wife, parents, and one brother, Albert.
