Death of Miss Sadie O’RoakeO’Roake, Sadie
The news of the death of Miss Sadie O’Roake, which occurred at the home of her sister, Mrs. Daniel McIlhone in Valeria, on Wednesday morning of last week, came as a great shock to her aged father and other relatives, as well as to a large circle of friends in this vicinity. Few knew even of her illness, and none dreamed of its being of a serious nature, until the sad telegram came. She had been visiting her sister, and her illness had been only a two or three days duration. Wednesday morning she felt much better and said she wanted to dress and assist her sister, but within a few minutes she sank back on her pillow and closed her eyes in death.
Sadie was a young lady greatly admired by a large circle of friends. She was the daughter of Mr. James O’Roake and was born and raised on the old home farm southwest of town. Since her mother’s death, about ten years ago, she has been the main stay and comfort of the aged father, upon whom her death falls with the greatest force. She also leaves four brothers and four sisters to mourn her loss. She was a devout member of the Catholic Church, and a zealous worker in all its interests; yet at the same time, she was always ready and willing to aid in the good work of other churches.
The remains were brought to Newton Thursday morning and taken to the old home, from which she had gone out so recently with the brightest hopes for a long life and happiness. Funeral services were held at Sacred Heart Church at 10 o’clock Friday morning, conducted by Father Moron, assisted by Father Quinn of Valeria, after which the remains were interred in the Catholic Cemetery.
