MIKE ORLICH, SR. DIED AT HOME HERE SATURDAY

Orlich, Mike

Heart Attack Proved Fatal While In The Yard At His Home Mike Orlich, Sr., 68, was found dead in the yard at his home in this city Saturday evening, Oct. 19, 1947, death being attributed to a heart attack.

Mr. Orlich underwent an operation in May, but soon recovered his health and had been in about his usual health up to the time of his sudden passing.

Mike Orlich, one of a family of four children was born in Yugoslavia, January 15, 1879, and passed from this life at his home in Colfax. Saturday, October 18, 1947, after suffering a heart attack. His age at passing was 68 years, nine months and 3 days.

Mr. Orlich came to America first in the year 1901, returning to his native land in 1903, where in the same year he was united in marriage with Mary Benjac. It was in the year 1907 that the family came and settled permanently in America and in the vicinity of Colfax.

To this union ten children were born, three of whom have passed away. Those living are Mary Stanich of Des Moines, Minnie Kappelman of Polk City, Dorothy Warren of Carlisle, Anna Snetselaar of Colfax, George of Newton and Mitchell and Eli of Colfax. There are four grandchildren; also two brothers, Eli of Des Moines and Nicholas of Yugoslavia. The wife and mother passed into the Great Beyond in the year 1941.

His popularity among his people is indicated by the host of friends and neighbors who assembled to pay their last tribute of respect.

Mr. Orlich's chief interests in life were his work and his family. He mined coal from early manhood until 1924 and then farmed until his retirement in 1944, since which time he has lived quietly with his son in this city.

Funeral services were conducted from the Christian Church Tuesday afternoon, with the Rev. A. A. Burr of Des Moines officiating.

Music was provided by Mrs. Geo. Rinker and Mrs. Howard Williams, with Mrs. Henry Pratt and Mrs. Thor Nicodemus in charge of the flowers.

Pall bearers were John Jurovich, Mike Bjegovich, Barney Vignovich, Mike Rastovac, George Prica and Nick Orlich.

The final resting place was in the Colfax Cemetery.
