MRS. ONTHANK DIES IN GRINNELL
Ollie Onthank (Phipps)
Mrs. Ollie Onthank, age 62, the wife of Edward Onthank of Rte. 3, Grinnell, passed away Thursday morning at a local hospital following an extended illness.
The daughter of John and Fannie Smith Phipps, she was born on November 20, 1904, at Montecello, Ky. Here she received her education in the public schools and at the age of 15 she came to Iowa and made her home with her aunt at Newton.
On August 19, 1921, she was united in marriage with Edward W. Onthank at Oskaloosa, Iowa. Following their marriage they farmed souhwest of Grinnell and made their home in the Grinnell area since then. She was a member of the Baptist church and W.A.W. Club.
She is survived by her husband Edward and seven daughters - - - Mrs. Wendell (Mildred) Claybrook of Lovillia, Ia.; Mrs. Delmer (Elsie) Van Gorp of Grinnell; Mrs. Paul (Darlene) Hamor of Grinnell; Mrs. Lyle (Rose) Johnson of Grinnell; Mrs. Richard (Mollie) Saunders of Grinnell; Mrs. Marvin (Grace) Davis of Marshalltown and Mrs. David (Irene) Kester of Newton; fifteen grandchildren; three great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father and mother and a daughter, Mary Doris, who passed away at birth; a sister, Mollie Doss and three grandchildren.
Funeral services for Mrs. Onthank will be Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. at the First Baptist Church, Rev. Chester E. Custer will officiate and interment will be in Hazelwood cemetery.
