Jesse O. Olson, 78, of Gilman died Sunday evening at Veterans Hospital in Iowa City, where he had been a patient for the past week.

The son of George and Lizzie Rinden Olson, he was born on June 30, 1891, near Gilman. He attended the Stavanger Friends boarding school near Dunbar.

On April 10, 1918, he was married to Florence Test at Marion, Iowa. Following service in the Army during World War I, he returned to Dunbar. For 34 years, he and his wife farmed east of Grinnell. In 1964, the couple retired and moved to Gilman.

Mr. Olson is survived by his wife, Florence; a son, Dale Russell Olson of Webster City; a brother, Marion of Marshalltown; and a sister, Mrs. Myrtle Pedersen of Nevada. He was preceded in death by two brothers; a daughter, Betty Jean; and one grandson.

A prayer service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Smith Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. at the Stavanger Friends Church near Dunbar. Burial will be in Stavanger Friends Cemetery.
