O'Leary, Margaret (Welch)

Mrs. Margaret O'Leary died at her home in Newton, Wednesday, August 7, 1895, after an illness of about thirteen months.

Margaret Welch was born at Limerick, Ireland, March 17, 1837, and came to America in 1852 when she was fifteen years of age. December 22, 1854, she was married to Cornelius O'Leary at Defiance, Ohio. To them were born twelve children, six boys and six girls. Eight of them, Mrs. Mary Haley, of Metz, Mrs. Kate Manning, of Newton, Jerry O'Leary, of Valley Junction, Mrs. Anna Verlin, of Des Moines, Dennis O'Leary, of Gilford, Mo., Josie, Cornelius and John at home, are yet living and all were with their mother when she died.

Mr. and Mrs. O'Leary came to Iowa in 1855 and to Newton in 1865, and have lived here ever since with the exception of four years spent in Kansas. Mr. O'Leary died at Metz, March 24, 1884.

The deceased was a member of the Catholic Church and held the respect of the entire community in which she had lived for so many years. She was a good mother, a loving wife, and a Christian woman.

Funeral services were held at the Catholic Church at 9:30 a. m., Thursday, conducted by Rev. Father Quinn. The interment was in the Catholic Cemetery.
