Mattie Murphy Dies on Sunday; Rites Wednesday

Mattie D. Murphy, 80, former resident of Kellogg and Newton, died Sunday evening at the Marshalltown County Home in Marshalltown.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Johnson Funeral Home. Burial will be in Our Silent City in Kellogg.

Friends may call at Johnson Funeral Chapel after noon Tuesday.

Survivors are a son, Lawrence E. Murphy of Marshalltown, a daughter, Mrs. F.L. (Betty) Mills of Hyattsville, Md., a sister, Mrs. E.G. Tough of Earlham and five grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother and three sisters.

Mrs. Murphy was a former employee of The Daily News.

The daughter of James and Christina Paulson, she was born Mar. 35, 1893 in Jasper County. She resided northeast of Kellogg for many years, came to Newton in 1944 and moved to Marshalltown in 1967. She was married to Olin Murphy in Kellogg in 1917.
