Jacob Mulbrook Succumbs Today; Pioneer Resident

Mulbook, Jacob

Jacob Mulbrook, 75, died at 2 o'clock Sunday at a farm south of Newton, following an illness of 7 hours during which he suffered from chest injuries caused by being stepped on by a mule at the barn where he had gone to turn the animal loose for the night.

Soon after he had gone to the barn at 7 o'clock, he was found lying unconcious at the side of the mule. As he failed to regain consciousness relatives stated that they were unable to ascertain whether he had suffered a heart attck, or stroke, resulting in falling beneath the animal or whether he might have been kicked by the mule first, causing him to fall where he was stepped on.

Born on Ocean Voyage.

Mr. Mulbrook, the last of a family of eight children, was born of German parents, on an American ship while making a three months ocean trip to this country from Germany.

The family came to the end of the railroad, and located two miles east of Kellogg. Since that time Mr. Mulbrook had spent most of his life in Jasper county, where he was engaged in farming.

Survivors.

He was united in marriage to Emma Lightfoot and 12 children were born to the union, 11 of whom survive. They are four sons, Don and Wendell Mulbrook of Newton, Roy Mulbrook of Ankeny and Richard Mulbrook of Kellogg, and seven daughters, Mrs. Elizabeth Russell, of Oskaloosa, Mrs. Margaret Gildersleeve of Grinnell, Mrs. Katherine Hall of Altoona, Mrs. De Marise Richards, Mrs. Julia Marshall and Mrs. Carrie Benjamin, all of Newton and Mrs. Odetha Hackney, Ames. One son, Frank Mulbrook, preceded him in death in 1936.

He is survived by his widow.

Funeral services will be conducted at the ? at 3'clock Tuesday afternoon with the Rev. T.W. Stark, paster of the Assembly of God church, officiating. Internment will be in Newton Union cemetery.
