Funeral of Mrs. Moran

Moran, Mary B. (Killduff)

Mrs. Mary B. Moran died at Raton, New Mexico, on Wednesday, March 9th, age 55 years and four days. The remains arrived in Newton Friday morning, accompanied by her daughter, Miss Addie, and was taken to the beautiful home now filled with sorrow from which she had gone out three short weeks before in the vain hope that in the mild southern climate of New Mexico she might regain her health which had been gradually declining for some time. The improvement which was quite marked at first, inspired the friends with hope but an attack of la grippe came, followed by pneumonia, which ended fatally within three or four days.

The funeral services were held in the church of the Sacred Heart, this city, on Sunday at 10:30 a. m., conducted by Rev. Father Moron and attended by a large concourse of friends. The floral offerings were beautiful, the singing and all the services were very solemn and impressive. The remains were interred in the Catholic Cemetery west of town.

Mrs. Moran’s maiden name was Mary B. Killduff. She was born in Ireland, but when she was quite small her parents immigrated to America and settled in New Jersey. In the early ‘50s they came to Illinois, where she was united in marriage to P. R. Moran. Twenty-seven years ago next month they came to Jasper County, and settled on a farm near Killduff, where Mr. Moran died on the 26th day of January 1892. Seven children were born to them, six of whom are still living: Addie, Kate, Annie, Agnes, Ed E. and J. T. all at home, except Ed who lives on the old farm near Killduff.

Three years ago, Mrs. Moran moved to town and built the beautiful home over on South Street. She was a devout Catholic, devoted mother, almost idolized by her children, and enjoyed the esteem of all who knew her.

The children desire, through the RECORD, to return thanks to the neighbors and friends who were so kind to them in their time of great sorrow.
