The Newton (IA) Record Thursday, November 9, 1899

Morgan, C. F., Sr.

Mr. C. F. Morgan, Sen., died at the home of his son, Frank Morgan, in this city, last Sunday evening, Nov. 5th, about 10 o’clock.

Father Morgan had been feeling poorly for about a week, but was able to be about as usual until Saturday when he suddenly grew worse, and continued to sink until the end came the next evening. Mr. Morgan had almost reached his eighty-fifth year. He was born in Richland, N. Y., Nov. 20th, 1814. Was united in marriage to Eliza Campbell in 1840, and in 1842 they moved to Kenosha, Wis., where they remained until 1865, then went to Alden, Ill. There in 1890, his aged companion died and her body was brought to Newton for burial, and from that time until his death, he made his home with his son here. He was a very quiet man, yet very sociable and made many friends among those with whom he associated. He was the father of four children, three of whom, C. F., Jr., Maggie and Della, are still living and make their home together in this city.

The funeral services were held at the Morgan home on Tuesday afternoon, conducted by his pastor, Rev. B. C. Baumgardner of the Congregational Church, assisted by Rev. Chambers of the Presbyterian Church. The services at the cemetery were in charge of the Masonic fraternity, of which deceased had long been a member. He was a good man, a true Christian and the influences of his pure life will live forever.
