ORPHA F. MATHEWS,
WIFE OF GRINNELL BUSINESSMAN, DIES

Mrs. Orpha Fae Mathews, 66, wife of Grinnell businessman Earl Mathews, died Sunday morning at an Iowa City hospital. She had been ill for the past month.

Funeral services for Mrs. Mathews will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday at the Congregational church with the Rev. Dr. G. S. Bruland, pastor of the Methodist church, officiating. Friends may call at the Smith Funeral Home.

Interment will be in Hazelwood cemetery.

Born in Keokuk county on Oct. 30th, 1894, she was the daughter of Charles B. and Kizzie Eckley Sheets. She received her education at Hedrick high school.

On Dec. 25th, 1917, at Heddrick, she was united in marriage with Earl Mathews by the Rev. Swan.

Mrs. Mathews is survived by her husband, Earl, at home; her son, John Alfred Mathews of Grinnell; and one granddaughter, Sara Lee Mathews.

Other survivors include two sisters, Mrs. W. W. (Marie) Davis of Los Angeles, Calif., and Mrs. Hessel (Olive) Kitterman of Dayton, Wash. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Mrs. Mathews came to Grinnell 34 years ago from Richland, Iowa. She was a member of the Congregational church and the American Legion Auxiliary.
