COLFAX — Edward A. Mathiesen, 75, of Colfax died Tuesday, Jan. 15, at Kavanagh House in Des Moines.

Funeral services will be Saturday at the Howard Street Christian Church with the Rev. Paul Elliott officiating. Burial will be at Newton Memorial Park Cemetery. Walters-Coburn Funeral Home in Colfax is handling arrangements. Friends may call after noon Friday at the funeral home where family will be available from 6 to 8 p.m.

The son of Axel and Helena Kalmikoff Mathiesen, he was born Sept. 14, 1926, in Sand Point, Alaska. He served in the United States Army during World War II. He moved to Newton in 1945 and on Sept 29, 1945, he married Juanita D. Cooper. He later married Betty Jane Scott on Nov. 16, 1996, and moved to Colfax at that time. Mr. Mathiesen worked as a machinist at Maytag for 37 years, retiring in 1983. He was a member of Howard Street Christian Church in Colfax and enjoyed fishing and music.

Survivors include his wife, Betty of Colfax, a son and daughter-in-law, Nelson Eddy and Alison of Woodstock, four daughters and three sons-in-law, Deanna Jo and Robert Stump of Glendale, Ariz., Diedra Jean and John Longdin and Denise Joy and Frank Pellet, all of Newton, and Debra, Jill Slings of Baxter, five grandchildren, five great grandchildren, and two sisters, Alma Bolton of Anchorage, Alaska, and Pauline Cole of Rockport, Wash.

He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, three brothers and two sisters.
