The Newton (IA) Record Thursday, April 20, 1899
McMurray, Walter

A letter from Mr. Joe T. McMurray of Syracuse, Kan., to his father, Mr. Henderson McMurry, brings the sad news of the drowning of his youngest son, Walter, on Sunday of last week. Walter was working on a cattle ranch at Idana, Kan., not far from Syracuse. On Sunday, in company with other boys he went swimming in a large pond. He took the cramps and before his companions could reach him, he sank for the last time. Charlie was born in Newton about fifteen years ago where his mother died when he was about three years old. He was a bright, intelligent little fellow, of a lovable disposition and a favorite among his relatives who are greatly grieved over his sad death. One of his brothers, Herman, is living with an aunt, Mrs. Fred Aillaud near Metz.
