PATRICK MCMANUS DIES TODAY IN LOCAL HOSPITAL

Patrick McManus, 75, native of Ireland, succumbed at 5:50 am today in Skiff Memorial hospital following a prolonged illness attributed to advanced age. He had been under treatment in the local hospital since late December.

Funeral services will be held at 10 o'clock Friday morning at the Sacred Heart church with Father T.J. McCann officiating. A rosary will be held at 7:45 pm Thursday at the Morgan Funeral home. Interment will be in the Catholic cemetery. The family had requested that flowers be omitted.

One of seven children of Patrick and Elizabeth McManus, he was born Oct. 29, 1872, in Cavan County, Ireland. At the age of 12 he came to the United States with his family which located Jasper county where he spent the remainder of his life.

Mr. McManus, an unmarried man, had been engaged in farming in the Newton vicinity prior to his retirement a few years ago. At the time he entered the hospital, he resided at the local nursing home.

He was a member of the Newton Sacred Heart church.

Surviving relatives include one brother, John J. McManus of Denver, and one sister, Mary McManus, of Newton, also several nieces and nephews.
