McCroskey, Claron B.

Claron B. "Mac" McCroskey, 84, of 3756 N. 59th Ave. E. died of heart failure Friday, Feb. 22, at USA Healthcare Newton. Private family graveside services will be held a Newton Union Cemetery with Chaplain Merle Smith of Skiff Medical Center officiating. Wallace Family Funeral Home is handling arrangements. Memorials will be accepted to the Jasper County Congregate Meals program and may be left at the funeral home.

The son of William G. and Nellie (Albee) McCroskey, he was born March 21, 1917, in Kellogg. He graduated from Washington High School in 1934. On May 15, 1939, he married Evelyn Roozeboom in Oskaloosa. He had lived In Oskaloosa and was a resident of Newton for more than 50 years. He served in the United States Army during World War II. He retired as a supervisor for the Maytag Company. Mr. McCroskey was a member of Newton Lodge No. 59 A.F./A.M., Za-Ga-Zig Shrine, VFW Post 1655 and Maytag Management Club.

Survivors include a son, William G. "Bill” McCroskey of Chariton, two daughters and sons-in-law, Karen and James Guffey and Sondra "Cokey" and Kenneth Doak, all of Newton, nine grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, three great great grandchildren, and a sister, Maxine Vant Hof of Santa Rosa, Calif.

He was preceded in death by his wife, a daughter in infancy, a brother and three sisters.
