Suicide of Chris Luthi
Luthi, Chris

Mr. Chris Luthi, a German living with his brother, Charles Luthi, about four miles north of Baxter, committed suicide Tuesday of last week by shooting himself. He fastened a shotgun in the palings of a fence near the corner of the front door-yard, placed the muzzle to his breast, and with a lath deliberately pushed the trigger, which sent the load of shot tearing through his body, killing him instantly. John A. Seaton was in the neighborhood, and saw the body a few minutes after the terrible tragedy. The deceased was about 32 years of age, unmarried, and was known as one of the most honorable and exemplary young men in his neighborhood, highly respected by everybody. About six months ago, his sister, for whom he had always entertained the tenderest affection, was killed by the cars near Melbourne. His grief was so great that at times ever since he has been subject to spells of melancholy, and it was probably in one of these that he committed the rash act.
