A Young Soldier Killed
Lloyd, Ralph

John Lloyd, of Dallas Center, formerly of Newton and well known to many of our people, sends us a paper telling of the death of his son, Ralph, which occurred on Sunday, Sept. 17th. Ralph was eighteen years of age. He had enlisted in the 44th U. S. Infantry and was on his way to Leavenworth, Kan., via the Iowa Central. Two miles north of Liscomb he fell from the train and was instantly killed. The conductor did not know of the accident until the train reached Liscomb; a special was sent back where the body was found on a bridge, where he had fallen.

The remains were taken to the home of his parents at Dallas Center, where the funeral was held in the M. E. Church on Wednesday last. John Lloyd’s Newton friends tenderly sympathize with him and his wife in the untimely death of their soldier boy cut off so suddenly when life to him was so bright and full of promise.
