The Newton Record Thursday, April 27, 1899
Little, Nancy Ann (Hood)

Nancy Ann Hood was born near Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, Penn., in 1826 and died April 19, 1899, aged 73 years, 2 months and 13 days. She was married to R. B. Little in 1843, who preceded her to the Spirit Land two years ago. To them were born seven children, two sons of whom preceded her to the home beyond, and five survive her, Maggie, James, John, Mrs. Anna France, and Mrs. Jennie Weld, all of whom were at the bedside of their mother when her life went out and she sank into that peaceful sleep.

While for a number of days the death of the above named highly respected lady was known to be only a question of a short time, every heart was saddened when it was said that Mrs. Little was dead. Her death occurred last Wednesday morning. She had been a sufferer for years, almost constantly, with the disease that would not yield to the skill of physicians nor compromise with the gentle hands of the loved ones who day and night wrought to sooth the pain and make comfortable the last hours of their dear mother’s long and useful life. She was lovingly and tenderly cared for by those whom she had nursed and reared to manhood and womanhood. She bore her sufferings with the heroism of the true Christian, never complaining and having but little hope of recovering. She expressed herself as being ready to go.

With Mother Little a beautiful life passed beyond. Nothing was ever too hard for her to do when she could relieve any one’s suffering; she was always looking to the interests of others. Her death has filled the home with the deepest sorrow in which all have the tenderest sympathy.

In 1868 she with her husband and family moved to Iowa by wagon and settled on the farm where they have since resided; were in a beautiful home supplied with every comfort and cared for by her children whose loving care was constantly over her, she lived until the summons of her Master called her to her reward.

The funeral was held at her home Thursday at eleven o’clock. A large congregation of her old friends and neighbors gathered to pay their last respects to one that has lived among them so many years. Beautiful flowers from kind friends were strewn on the casket. The services were conducted by Rev. John Ferguson of Newton U. P. Church. Deceased was a long time a member of this denomination and by her bright, Christian example in the community will long be remembered and mourned deeply. She was laid to rest by the side of her husband and children in the Wild Cat Grove Cemetery. (Palo Alto Cemetery).
