Likes, James M.

Jas. M. Likes, who formerly resided on a farm five miles northwest of Newton, died at his home near Little Rock, in Lyons County, Ia., on Tuesday, March 16th. This will be sad news to his old friends and neighbors in Jasper County, by whom he was held in the highest esteem during the long years of his residence among them. Mr. Likes was about fifty-seven years of age. He had been in poor health for some time, and returning from a business trip to Chicago a few weeks ago, he contracted a severe cold, which resulted in his death. He united with the Presbyterian Church of Newton, before he left here, some nine years ago, and has remained firm and steadfast in this Christian integrity. He leaves a wife, four sons and four daughters ­ all grown to manhood and womanhood ­ who have the earnest sympathy of their old friends here in the sad bereavement which has come to them.
