MRS. LIGHTFOOT DIES SUNDAY.
Had Been Ill Three Years.
Funeral Will Be Held Tomorrow Afternoon.

Lightfoot, Julia Ann (Stevenson)

Mrs. Julia Ann Lightfoot, 72 years old, pioneer settler of Jasper county and a well known woman in Newton and Kellogg, died at her home in this city, Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Death came after an illness of almost three years. For the past six weeks her condition has been considered serious. For 18 months she has been confined to her bed suffering complication of ailments brought on by heart trouble. Because of her weakened vitality, little hope for her recovery has been entertained since her last serious illness.

Funeral services for Mrs. Lightfoot will be held tomorrow afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at the Morgan Funeral Home. Rev. Paul E. Becker, pastor of the Christian church, will conduct the services. Burial will be made in the Newton cemetery.

Six daughters and two sons and a number of grandchildren survive. The names of the surviving children are: Mrs. Emma Mulbrooks, Mrs. Robert Smith, Mrs. Edna Jack, of Newton, Mrs. Walter Davis, of Indianola, Mrs. C Y. Bateham, of Des Moines, Mrs. E. N. Ballard, of Rosewell, New Mexico and Frank and John Lightfoot of Newton. Three children died in infancy.

The death of Mrs. Lightfoot not only takes from the community one of the older residents but one who has been high in the esteem of her friends and relatives. She was a kind, loving and sacrificint mother, whose first and last thoughts were always of her children. For the past 23 years since moving from Kellogg she has made her home with her children or her children have been in her home.

During her youth and while a resident of Kellogg, she was an active member of the Christian church. After coming to Newton she continued her work in the church but on account of ill health in recent years she has not been able to take a prominent part.

Julia Ann Stevenson Lightfoot was born October 1850 in Bronsville, Pa., and was married when she was 24 years old to Isiah Lightfoot, a soldier of the Civil war, in Elkhart, Pa. They came to Kellogg township in 1880 and settled on a farm where they lived for a time and then moved into the city of Kellogg; where Mrs. Lightfoot lived until 23 years ago, when she came to Newton.
