Charles Liebsley is Crushed by a Threshing Machine Cylinder
Liebsley, CharlesCharles Liebsley met his death at the farm of Mr. McMagon, about twelve miles north of town yesterday. While he was running the threshing machine, about eleven o'clock in the morning he stepped in front of the cylinder to oil the machine. His foot slipped throwing him, his leg catching in the cylinder. His left limb was shattered and mangled in to threads within a few inches of his body. The man feeding the machine, seeing the accident, at once caught him by the body and held him till the machine could be stopped and thus kept his body from going through the machine. Medical aid was at once summoned and Drs. Graham of Baxter, Plumb of Van Cleve, and Engel & Son, of Newton, came. They found him suffering from nervous shock with heart collapse and stimulants, warmth and hypodermic injections were applied, but they were unavailing. Thereupon the medical attendants decided to amputate the limb, which was done, but all to no purpose for within three hours thereafter the patient died.
The deceased was an honest and upright man and citizen. He leaves a wife and two children to mourn the loss of a kind and affectionate husband and father.
The funeral will occur tomorrow at Horn and interment in the cemetery at that place (St. John's Cemetery).
